Our Journey to Fidelis Meats
In early 2013, our lives changed forever when Pawee, our Scottie girl, joined our family as a 10-week-old bundle of fur. She quickly became the joy of our lives. As responsible pet parents, we meticulously researched the best food for her, opting for a top-rated kibble brand based on five-star reviews before she even came home.
Pawee had a habit of licking her paws after every meal. Initially, we dismissed it as a quirky habit of hers. Though she was generally healthy, she suffered from recurring hotspots. Despite multiple vet visits and treatments with antibiotics and steroid creams, the hotspots would clear up only to reappear once the medication stopped. It wasn’t until one night when her condition worsened dramatically, leading her to chew off all the hair from her legs to her chest until they were bloody, that we realized something was seriously wrong.
When your furkid isn’t sleeping well due to relentless scratching, it’s incredibly exhausting and stressful for everyone involved. Seeing her in such distress was heartbreaking.
Desperate for a solution, a friend suggested we switch to a raw diet. Honestly, I was hesitant about feeding her raw meat and the handling it required, but we decided to give it a try. The results were astounding! By the third day, her scratching had significantly decreased, and within a week, it completely stopped. Her paw licking ceased entirely, confirming that her issues were indeed diet-related.
A basic search for the best pet food online in Singapore would typically yield numerous five-star reviews for various kibble brands. Back then, raw pet food wasn’t widely available or discussed unless you specifically sought it out.
The pet food industry faced a series of scandals in the 2010s, which heightened awareness among concerned pet parents. Many began to question the true quality of kibble, as more pets started experiencing health issues that were previously uncommon before kibble became the standard.
As pet parents became more informed and sought better diets for their beloved pets, many discovered remarkable results from switching to raw food. This led to an exponential growth in the global raw feeding community. In Singapore, a small but rapidly growing group of raw feeding enthusiasts emerged, mostly relying on DIY solutions due to limited options. At that time, there were no locally made raw pet food suppliers or businesses catering to their needs.
Fidelis Meats was initially conceived as a butchery for humans, and we were in fact in the final stages of setup, with all suppliers lined up, when Pawee’s skin issues escalated. This uncanny timing made us believe that God had a different plan for us. We decided to pivot and create Singapore’s first butchery dedicated exclusively to raw pet nutrition.
Back to the drawing board, we embarked on many months of research, consultations, formulations, trials, and license applications. In November 2014, Fidelis Meats finally came to fruition.
